Learning more about Sharon…
Balancing the demands of running a business with the responsibilities of being a parent is an everyday struggle for Sharon. As a single parent, she faces the daily challenge of balancing work and parenting. Though working from home allows her to be present with her children, she often works long hours on days when they are not with her to make up for lost time.
Sharon believes that success is when families send her videos of their children singing her songs at home, and when she sees kids enjoying her classes and having fun while singing, laughing, and moving. Also, it's when parents write her messages expressing gratitude for teaching their children Mandarin through music and movement.
Her most significant achievement is creating a fun and engaging way of teaching Mandarin to her children. She envisioned writing musically interesting songs that families could enjoy singing together.
Launching Heart Strings Mandarin
Sharon founded Heart Strings Mandarin, which offers early childhood Mandarin music and movement classes for children ages 7 and under. She created the curriculum herself and wrote many of the songs taught in class.
Her classes are designed to be fun, engaging, and interactive, focusing on creating a love of music and language in children.
Sharon faced a significant challenge when she decided to offer online classes during the pandemic. It was a completely new experience for her as she had previously only taught in person. The biggest hurdle she encountered was figuring out how to transition to teaching online effectively. Sharon had to familiarize herself with the Zoom platform and develop new instructional materials tailored explicitly for online classes. This process involved a lot of trial and error, and she even recorded her courses for review to improve her online teaching abilities.

Sharon’s goal for the next 3-6 months
Sharon's goal for the next 3-6 months is to continue teaching Mandarin through music and movement, collaborating with more musicians, and creating resources for families to use at home. She hopes to inspire a love of music and language in children and bridge cultural gaps. Sharon believes in the power of music to bring people together and create connections that last a lifetime.
