As a child of immigrants, Ran was raised with a keen appreciation for Chinese culture and language, and she wanted to pass this gift on to her daughter, Lily.
For Ran, success is all about bringing joy to people's lives. Seeing parents and children connect over her books, and knowing that children are learning and growing through her stories, is the ultimate reward. And she has already achieved a major milestone: selling out her first batch of printed book orders.
Of course, running a business while also being a parent is not without its challenges. But Ran has found a way to balance these demands, by prioritizing time with her family and taking advantage of early mornings, late nights, and nap times to get her work done. She also makes sure to take time for herself and for her partner, recognizing that self-care is an important part of any successful venture.
Launching Boba Bear Bilingual
While trying to raise her daughter with an appreciation for Chinese culture and language, Ran found that there were very few bilingual books available in the children's book market. So, she created Boba Bear Bilingual, a series of books that celebrate multiculturalism and language learning.
One of the biggest challenges for Boba Bear Bilingual has been building brand awareness without a large marketing budget. But Ran has found creative ways to connect with her community, both in person and through social media. By staying authentic and focusing on quality, she has been able to grow her brand organically, and she is excited to see where the future will take her.
Boba Bear is in many ways Ran’s love letter to her daughter. She wanted to create relatable and engaging learning books that make reading a fun experience for both parents and children, in hopes that multicultural kids like Lily can find joy and take pride in seeing books on the shelves that celebrate their culture and language.

Ran’s goal for the next 3-6 months
Ran is eagerly anticipating the arrival of her second daughter this spring. Her top priority is to ensure a warm and loving welcome for the new addition to her family. As for her business, Ran aims to forge more partnerships with the local community. This will enable her to expand the reach of Boba Bear Bilingual and introduce more households, libraries, and stores to the wonderful world of bilingual storytime.
